Gay extravaganza on a path to South Hams
GAY identical twin brothers Mat and Jon Price are organising the first ever South Hams Pride festival, with a ‘spectacular’ programme of events and entertainment.
Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell will be the guest of honour at the event, which will bring South Devon’s lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender community (LGBT) together with their friends and families for a full day and night of celebration in the town.
Totnes-based Proud2Be, launched two years ago by the Dartington brothers, is laying on a host of events in the town on Saturday, September 14, in what it hopes will be the UK’s largest rural Pride event.
The day begins at 11.30am at Totnes Civic Hall where visitors can take part in a panel debate, workshops and talks from some leading LGBT figures from across the country, including Mr Tatchell and Elly Barnes, who topped the Independent newspaper’s Pink List, a rundown of the 250 most influential people in the LGBT community.
A Totnes Pride After Party from 8pm at the South Devon Arts Centre promises a night of entertainment, dance and music featuring the UK’s top burlesque group Kinky and Quirky, live music from Sound of the Sirens and Rebecca Maze, and top DJs.
Mr Tatchell said Mat and Jon had created something really special.
