Dartmouth Flowers best in the west
Dartmouth’s flowers are the best in the west – and that is blooming well official.
The town has just won the regional bloom award for the best seaside town in the South West region.
And that was just one of a fistful of Britain in Bloom awards the town walked away with during the regional awards ceremony which went ahead in Truro Cathedral.
Dartmouth will not know whether it is the best in the whole of the country until the national awards are announced on October 12.
In the meantime, the Dartmouth Bloom team is celebrating its regional accolades as a community triumph backed by the whole town.
Chairman Stevie Rogers said: ‘What is very special for us this year is that everything is down to the town itself.
‘Nothing was brought in and we made everything ourselves. Organisations such as the Brownies and the Sea Scouts helped out. We had so many people in the town putting up baskets and helping out as volunteers. It was one big community effort.’
On top of the Coastal Trophy for the best seaside town, Dartmouth also won the Abbiss Cup for the best municipal horticultural display in the South West for the Royal Avenue Gardens efforts.
