South Hams Flood event offers good ideas
Residents from across the South Hams affected by flooding attended aspecial information event organised by the District Council on September17th at the council’s Follaton House headquarters in Totnes. Residents were able to drop in and speak to a range of experts.
The Environment Agency, the Met Office, Devon County Council and the
District Council’s Emergency Planning Team were on hand to give advice and information People could also browse a series of stands exhibiting the latest innovations to help people protect their property including flood barriers, flood proof door guards, airbrick covers and alternatives to sandbags.
Ursula and Noel from Bigbury (pictured) who were flooded in December last year were among those who attended. They said: “It has been very useful. We have been very impressed with some of the products such as the self-filling ‘sand’ bags.
Our flood was an exceptional event but we want to do all we can to protect ourselves in the future so it has been helpful to see what things are available.”
