Thief in bid to take cars

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after the attempted theft of five vehicles on the same night last week.
Sometime between the night of Thursday, October 17, and the morning of Friday, October 18, five cars parked at various locations around Dartmouth either had their doors prised open, their windows smashed or their ignition systems tampered with in an attempt to start them.
Two of the cars were parked at Mount Boone, one on Clarence Hill, one in the Mayor’s Avenue car park and one on South Embankment.
Although none of the attempts to start the cars were successful, the car parked on Clarence Hill was moved down the hill in an attempt to try to start it.
All the cars involved were older vehicles, mostly X or Y registrations. Three of the five vehicles have since been taken for forensic examination and police are currently waiting for the results.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to call the non-emergency police number on 101 quoting crime reference JH/13/ 408 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
