Sammy is back in Dartmouth

Sammy the Dartmouth harbour grey seal has returned again this year. He/she has been visiting since 2008 and was spotted again last week off the south embankment. Along with Dartmouth’s Danny the Dolphin and Pete the Porpoise they all bode well for the health of the river and are a popular added interest for residents and visitors alike.

The real prize for improving water quality in the river would be a return of the salmon fishery. Agricultural pollution has caused the loss of this over the last 50 years and discussions are taking place about this. In particular the land steward of the Duchy of Cornwall has asked the Harbour Authority for discussions and this is to be welcomed.
